The new building in the 3000 block of Millwood Avenue will soon be the home to a full-service Starbucks and Basecamp Fitness. Construction is underway, overseen by Dolphin Commercial of Atlanta.

Baristas, store managers, and shift supervisors are currently being interviewed for the new Starbucks location. Company officials plan to open the store in March.

The Millwood Starbucks will be the second new location in the Columbia area this year, following the January opening of the BullStreet District Starbucks.

Basecamp Fitness is a newcomer to the state. Based out of Minnesota, the fitness center offers cardio, strength, and stretch workouts all under the close supervision of a conditioning coach. Each member will have a workout routine structured to address their individual needs and desires while taking into account the member’s fitness/workout history.

Basecamp promotes interval training with sessions lasting 40, 60, or 90 seconds. The sessions are part of a 35-minute workout designed to exercise all major muscle groups and get members in and out, and on their way.

The Columbia location will be a franchise with three levels of membership available. Prices are approximate, and may vary slightly. The Hike membership is $69 a month, entitling a member to four sessions. The Climb is $99 a month for eight sessions. The Unlimited is $169 a month for as many sessions as the member desires.

Hours of operation will be Mondays through Fridays from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m., and Saturdays and Sundays from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Basecamp's projected opening date is April 1. Additional information can be found at

The businesses will be located at 3009 Millwood Ave.
