Adam Anderson’s family has been washing cars for many years.

Andy’s Car Wash was first created by his grandfather, Andy, more than 50 years ago. Anderson is now the manager for the new Lexington location, carrying on the business in its third generation.

Andy’s Car Wash in Lexington first opened in late December, but held its official grand opening and ribbon cutting ceremony last week. “The first 60 days we were opened, it rained 45 of them,” laughed Anderson.

Plans were in the works for nearly five years to open an Andy’s in Lexington. Anderson said he and his family fell in love with the Midlands since they moved to the area four years ago. “We’ve been washing cars for a long time but we’ve owned and operated washes in Indiana and Florida. We wanted to relocate and find a place that we wanted to be forever - and Lexington answered that - it was everything we were looking for,” he said.

The company is an express exterior car wash where customers stay in their vehicle and drive through, directed by employees. Andy’s also offers free vacuums, towels, window cleaner and a floor mat cleaning machine that are all self-serve. “So if someone wants to detail the inside of their vehicle, they can,” said Anderson.

Andy’s provides three types of car washes ranging from the basic “handy” wash, to the “dandy” and the most extensive wash, the “grandy.” Customers can pay a flat monthly rate to receive an unlimited amount of washes, starting at $20 a month. “Think of it like a gym membership that you want to use,” Anderson said. “Once a month we bill their credit card and they can run through the wash an unlimited amount of times during that month. We see during pollen season a lot of customers taking advantage of that.”

Anderson said they also have an Andy’s Car Wash app. Customers receive a “grandy” wash for free when downloading the app and logging in. The unlimited wash program is also available for purchase through the app. “We have license plate recognition technology so there’s no extra sticker in the window or anything like that. Just log on [the app], take a pic of your plate, and enter your credit card info, then they’re unlimited,” he said.

The business is located at 251 Columbia Ave. Hours of operation are from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. Mondays through Saturdays, and 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. Sundays. Additional information can be found on Andy’s Car Wash of Lexington’s Facebook page.
