It's almost time for holiday shopping, which means an influx in online purchasing. Amazon announced Tuesday that the company will be hiring more than 1,300 seasonal employees in South Carolina, and many will be for the West Columbia location.

According to Amazon communications representative Rachael Lighty, Amazon will be hiring employees across the state in Greenville, Hanahan, Spartanburg, and West Columbia. Lighty said the majority of the positions will be for the West Columbia distribution center, with several hundred roles available.

The hiring in South Carolina is a small portion of the 100,000 positions Amazon will be filling for seasonal roles in the US and Canada. Many job locations also include bonus holiday incentives.

"Amazon offers jobs for people of all backgrounds and skill levels, and these 100,000 new, seasonal jobs offer opportunities for pay incentives, benefits, and a path to a longer-term career, or can simply provide extra income and flexibility during the holiday season," the Amazon announcement reads.

Amazon employees in South Carolina have a starting wage of $15 per hour. Those interested can apply at The distribution center in West Columbia is located at 4400 12th St. Ext.
