The Kershaw County Ponytail X-play All Stars are headed to Texas this weekend for the World Series in softball.

Representing South Carolina, the team is composed of girls from Lugoff, Elgin, Camden, Cassatt and Northeast. This will be the first Kershaw County Ponytail team to represent the state in the Dixie Softball World Series. In fact, the last and only other time a Kershaw County Dixie team of any sort made it to the World Series, was in 1986.

The Ponytails faced a number of tough competitors earlier this month on their way to winning state. Taking place at the Timken Sports complex (Union), the girls defeated top squads like Lancaster, Georgetown, Union, and then knocked off Sumter twice to advance and take the title.

The World Series for the 11 and 12-year-old girls gets underway beginning Saturday, and will include 10 teams: Florida, Virginia, Alabama, Texas, Hopins County (Texas), Louisiana, Tennessee, North Carolina, and Mississippi. The girls who represent the Palmetto state will face Mississippi in the first round.
