Coroner identifies 18-year-old in fatal Columbia shooting incident

Richland County Coroner Gary Watts released the name of the individual who died as a result of being involved in a shooting on Forestview Circle in Columbia. The incident occurred Aug. 8 at approximately 11:00 p.m.

According to Watt, Carlos Bethel, 18, of Chatteris Road, Irmo, was transported from the scene by Richland County EMS to Prisma Health Richland Memorial Hospital. He died Wednesday at 11:48 a.m. The cause of death is due to complications of gunshot wounds to the upper body.

The Richland County Coroner’s Office and the Richland County Sheriff’s Department are investigating the incident.
