Greer Post 115 wins S.C. American Legion title in Columbia

A berth in the American Legion Southeast Regional Tournament in Tampa, Fla. was already assured for South Carolina finalists Greer Post 15 and Fort Mill Post 43.

Friday afternoon at Segra Park, the two Upper State teams ended up playing twice to determine the state champion.

After four hours of play, it was Greer Post 15 that emerged with its first state title in 62 years.

Fort Mill stayed alive for the title with a 4-0 victory in Game One. All four runs were scored in the top fourth on three straight RBI singles by JT Marr and Cameron Greene and two-run double by Carson Jones.

On the mound, Jeff Maidof held Greer to two hits and struck out six in a complete game victory.

Greer rebounded in Game Two with a 7-2 victory.

Greer jumped out to a 6-0 lead in the first two innings. It scored five runs in the top first, three on bases loaded walks and a two-run double by Hunter Taylor, and added a RBI single by Benjamin Thornton, who drove in two runs.

It was more than enough for pitcher Joshua Fenton. He held Fort Mill to three runs and seven hits, and struck out one in a complete game victory.

Greer will face the Florida American Legion champion at 2:30 pm Wednesday. Fort Mill will face the Missouri American Legion champion at 10 am in the tournament opener.
