Coroner releases identity of teen who died in I-26 crash, Monday

Richland County Coroner Gary Watts released the name of the individual who died Monday in a two-vehicle collision on I-26 west bound at mile marker 100, Columbia.  The incident occurred right before noon.

Benito Santiago Alejandro, 19, of Sid Sites Road, Irmo, died at the scene.  Mr. Alejandro was the driver of a vehicle that collided with a tractor-trailer.  A postmortem examination indicated that the cause of death was due to massive blunt force injuries.

The Richland County Coroner’s Office and the SC Highway Patrol are investigating the incident.
