Raw Essence Natural Soaps and Bath is now officially open in the Spring Valley Commons Shopping Center at 9003 Two Notch Road, Suite 12.

Owner M. Antwane Sheppard is no new-comer to the business. She previously ran her own shop in Rock Hill. That shop was open for about two years before she and her husband decided to relocate to Columbia just a few months ago.

Raw Essence specializes in natural skincare. “Everything here is handmade with natural ingredients that you can pronounce. We make everything from scratch right here in our soap kitchen,” said Sheppard.

The business offers everything from hair care products to baby products, and even pet products. “We make lotions, we make deodorant, we make toothpaste, and we make a whole lot of different things. We have a pet care line, a hair care line, and you can just take some time sniffing some things,” she laughed.

After a braiding catastrophe about seven years ago, Sheppard said she started researching ways to naturally stimulate the regrowth of her hair, which prompted her to create her first concoction. “I call it my Edge Growth Treatment… I was intrigued with oils, essential oils carrier oils, and the benefits that they have for your skin , so I continued to learn and research and taught myself how to make soap,” she said.

The grand opening of Raw Essence Natural Soaps and Bath will be held Saturday, August 10 at 11 a.m. More information can be found on the company’s Facebook page.
