Most people probably associate stand-up comedy performances with late nights in bars, and with good reason. However, Columbia’s Curiosity Coffee Bar is offering something a little different.

On the last Sunday of each month, the N. Main St. business hosts local comedians for Caffeinated Coffee.

Several of the comics at the July edition made reference to the “early” start at 1 p.m., alluding to their more usual late-night start times.

With Greg Hardy acting as master of ceremonies, each comic delivered a 5-7 minute set. The jokes are required to be “family-friendly,” which is also a change for some of the performers.

“The hardest part of this show is remembering I can’t tell my dirty jokes… which is most of my jokes,” Quinton Wilde said Sunday, drawing a laugh from the crowd.

The monthly event is open to all and there is no admission fee. Coffee, tea, mimosas, beer, wine and baked goods are available for purchase.

Information on future events at Curiosity Coffee is available at the bar’s Facebook page.
