The Dorn VA was the site Friday morning for UofSC men’s basketball players to support their sixth year of 8K in 8 Days. Through public appearances at places like the VA, Ronald McDonald House, Transitions, and Habitat for Humanity, the players give out autographs, baseball caps, and speak to fans. The goal is to reach 8,000 fans in eight days.

“We get the chance to help those in need and give back to the community that gives us so much,” said senior forward Maik Kotsar. “People say we’re heroes,” sophomore Justin Minaya added. “But the vets here are the real heroes, not us.”

Several players mentioned that 8K in 8 campaign is also a valuable way to develop team building.

After initially signing and distributing Gamecock baseball caps, team members were given a tour of the VA facility, visiting the emergency room, pharmacy, radiology and urological clinics.
