If you like a little jewelry with your java, embroidery with your espresso or pottery with your pastry, northeast Columbia’s newest coffee shop is the place for you.

Alexandra’s Café & Art held its grand opening Tuesday at 111 Sparkleberry Crossing Road, Suite 2. The combination of a coffee shop with an art gallery is the brainchild and “lifelong dream” of owner Alexandra Parks.

“I’m an artist,” Parks said. “I thought, ‘What would bring people together to look at art?’ Coffee seemed like it would go together.”

In addition to coffee, the café offers espresso, coffee, hot chocolate, hot cider, hot tea, iced beverages and smoothies. Scones and crepes are baked on site, while a local wholesale baker provides cookies, muffins and more. The art side of the house offers original, local art for sale, as well as art supplies, handmade jewelry, pottery and embroidered items. Art classes — painting, sketching, macrame, wood carving and wreath making — are offered every other Wednesday.

Alexandra’s is the first business venture for Parks, who’s lived in Columbia for 24 years. The café is open Tuesday through Thursday 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., Friday and Saturday 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Sunday from noon to 5 p.m.
