Camden opens third round of American Legion playoffs

The Elite 8 is set for the South Carolina American Legion baseball tournament.

Only four teams will get to advance to the state tournament, set to begin July 29 and conclude July 31 – Aug 2 at Columbia’s Segra Park.

The lone Midlands team still involved is Camden Post 17. The team will be facing top seed Florence Post 1 (30-2) in the third round of the Lower State bracket in a Best-of-Five series.

Camden (18-5) advanced following a series sweep of Orangeburg Post 4, while Florence also won in three games against Lexington Post 7.

Game One will begin Monday at 7:30 p.m. at Legion Field in Florence, with Game Two taking place Tuesday in Camden. The series winner will open the state tournament against either Goose Creek/Charleston Post 166 (13-7) or Sumter Post 15 (21-8) with homefield to be determined.

In the Upper State, Greer Post 115 (15-6) will open at Best-of-Five series Monday against Greenwood Post 20 (16-9). The winner will face either Fort Mill Post 43 (16-2) or Gaffney Post 109 (13-9) to open the state tournament.
