A trio of Midlands teams will continue their quest for a spot in the South Carolina American Legion tournament taking place at Segra Park in Columbia.

Two of the teams will open on the road. Defending state champion Chapin/Newberry Post 193/24 will travel to Stevens Field to face League 5 champion Greer Post 115 in Game one of the Best-of-Five series.

Chapin/Newberry (9-11) advanced after a 7-5 win over Easley Post 52 in the deciding game of the Best-of-Three Upper State series. A five-run rally in the top third helped Chapin-Newberry take an early lead. Jackie Stroud had the first of two, 2-run doubles in the third and fifth innings to lead Post 193/24.

The latter came after Easley cut the lead to 5-4. Wesley Livingston entered the contest and allowed just one run the rest of the way in relief of winner Nickie Demasi.

Lexington Post 7 swept its opening round Lower State series against Manning-Santee Post 68. After rallying for five runs to take a 8-7 victory at home, Lexington got a two-hit effort from Will Lott of Lexington High School to clinch the series with a 4-1 win at Monarch Field.

Up next for Lexington (10-13) is League 2 champion Florence Post 1 (27-3) with Game One starting at 7:30 pm at Legion Field in Florence. Game Two will take place Tuesday at the Lexington Sports Complex at Ballpark Road in Lexington.

Games one and three are set for Monday and Wednesday at Legion Field in Camden, with a Game five, if necessary, taking place there Friday.

Games two and four (if necessary) will take place at Mirmow Field in Orangeburg Tuesday and Thursday.
