Rosewood Drive closed after fatal crash

The 1400 block of Rosewood Drive near Superior Street in Columbia was closed Sunday morning due to a vehicle collision.  The driver of the damaged vehicle  was taken to a local hospital with serious injuries, according to the Columbia Police Department.

Later, the S.C. Highway Patrol  reported the accident happened around 7:35 a.m. Sunday morning.  The driver of a 1999 Ford Crown Victoria lost control of the car on Superior Street near Rosewood Drive, said Cpl. Sonny Collins of  SCHP.

The car was traveling west on Superior Street when it struck a small curb in the median on the road. The driver lost control, struck a retaining wall and overturned, ejecting the driver from the car.

The driver, who was the only occupant of the car, was taken the hospital. The driver was later pronounced dead. CPD photo.
