Service scheduled Sunday for former Dutch Fork running back

The Lexington Chapel of Caughman-Harman Funeral Home will hold a service starting at 5 p.m. Sunday at the River Home and Jasmine Houses and Gardens at 2204 North Lake Drive for Michael Gasparato.

The former Dutch Fork High and Penn State running back lost his 11-month battle with cancer on June 28. He was 37 years old.

Gasparato was a standout high school running back for the Silver Foxes before signing with Penn State. He averaged five yards per carry during his time at Penn State from 2000 to 2004. He rushed for 196 yards and two touchdowns on 39 carries. He also caught two passes for 62 yards.

Gasparato’s late father, Nick Gasparato, was a former assistant coach at Penn State.

His younger brother, Greg Gasparato, played football at State College Area High School and later at at Wofford College. He was hired as a defensive assistant in January 2018 by Appalachian State.
