Construction worker dies on job site after supplies fall on him
Richland County Coroner Gary Watts released the name of the individual who died yesterday after being involved in a construction site incident. The incident occurred at approximately 10 a.m. and was located at 172 Council Loop in Columbia.
Lazaro Ramirez, 38, of Wynette Way, Columbia, was working on a construction site when a pallet of construction supplies dropped on top of him. Ramirez was transported by Richland County EMS and taken to Prisma Health Richland Memorial Hospital. He died at 12:30 p.m. An autopsy indicated that the cause of death was due to blunt crush force trauma to the upper torso.
The Richland County Coroner’s Office is investigating the incident and the Occupational Safety and Health Administration was notified.
