The SCDOT will begin a six-week long construction project to the repair the bridge on Killian Road and I-77. Work is scheduled to start Monday night. Traffic in just one lane will be allowed for westbound drivers on parts of Killian Road. The closed lanes will start at Killian Crossing and end after the I-77 overpass.
The project will be done in two phases, according to a release from the SCDOT. Each of the phases will last about three weeks. The first phase begins Monday,
Once work is finished on the right lane, traffic will be shifted to the new lane and the left lane will be closed for the second phase of the project.
Weather permitting, SCDOT hopes to meet a six-week deadline. Crews are scheduled to work around the clock, according to SCDOT.
Drivers are being advised to find an alternate route, if possible, and drive with caution in the work area if there.
The project is part of SCDOT’s 10-year plan to improve “structurally deficient” bridges throughout South Carolina.
