UPDATED – Deputy seriously injured in collision, man arrested for DUI
South Lake Drive in Lexington was closed Saturday morning, between Two Notch Road and Community Drive, due to a vehicle collision. There were injuries. Two vehicles involved, including a Lexington County Sheriff’s Department patrol unit. Both drivers transported to the hospital for treatment, according to a LCSD report.
South Lake Drive between Two Notch Road and Community Drive was closed as state troopers investigated and cleared the scene, but the road was re-opened as of 12:30 p.m.
The driver of the car who hit the deputy has been charged with DUI. He was identified as 36-year-old Michael Jordan Nichols. Nichols hit deputy Roy Hall, who was driving down South Lake Drive near Paps Drive around 5:55 a.m., according to the SCHP.
Hall was seriously injured, but his injuries are not life-threatening. Nichols has been charged with felony DUI resulting in great bodily injury. Hall remains hospitalized.
