Columbia’s fourth annual Shrimp and Grits Fest happening this month

Southerners tend to feel strongly about the way they like their shrimp and grits. Whether it’s with tasso ham and cooked onion, or a heaping pile of cheese, most have a preference.

In two weeks, guests attending Columbia’s fourth Shrimp and Grits Fest will get the chance to decide which restaurant prepares the iconic dish just the way it’s “supposed to taste.” The event will be held June 15 from 6 to 9 p.m. at the Doubletree Hotel (2100 Bush River Road).

One restaurant will be given the title of “Columbia’s Best Shrimp and Grits,” decided by a panel of judges. There will also be a winner of the “People’s Choice” award.

Participating restaurants and caterers include Midlands Modern Southern Food Arts, The Grand, Ashley’s Yummy Tummy, Farrah’s Backyard Catering, Cooperative Meetings, 1801 Grille, 8th Wonder Cuisine, Flavored Fork, Sarge’s Chef on Wheels, and The Venue on Main. According to the event’s website, there are still more participants to come.

Tickets for guests 20 and younger are $25. Everyone 21 and up is $35 per ticket.

All tickets include unlimited shrimp and grits samples from participating restaurants live music from Under the Sun, and door prizes. More information can be found at columbiashrimpandgrits.com
