James Brian Gainey
James Brian Gainey, 47, of Hopkins, died Sunday, May 26, 2019. Born January 6, 1972, he was a son of Jenny Lynn Cherry Gainey and the late Oscar David Gainey, Jr.
Brian was a family man who loved his children and grandchildren. He especially enjoyed his daily morning visits with his mother. He was an avid outdoorsman, who loved to fish, hunt and go for boat rides on the river. Once a year, he and his fellow employees would ride the Congaree River to clean the trash from past campsites. Brian was always an early bird who woke up every day at 4:30 am. He worked for more than 20 years with his best friend, Sean Smathers installing flooring.
Survivors include his mother, Jenny Lynn Gainey; fiancé, Cynthia Jane Pierce; children, Brittany Lane, Kyle Yandle, Lauren Miller, James Gainey, Jr., Ashley Baucom, Dale Croft and Malinda Gainey; grandchildren, Melanie Lane, Madison Lane, Emily Miller, Karlie Huffman, Taylor Gainey, Holand Thomas, Skyler Mitchell and Jet Thomas, Jr; brothers, Oscar David Gainey, III., Robert Joseph Gainey; niece, Cynthia Marrow; nephews, Justin Parker Gainey and Richard Joseph Gainey; and his loyal companion, Shelley. He is preceded in death by his father, Oscar David Gainey, Jr.
A memorial service for Mr. Gainey will be held at 5 o’clock on Saturday, June 1st at Horrell Hill Independent Baptist Church with the Rev. Glenn Fryer officiating. A visitation will begin one hour prior to the service at the church. The family also invites friends to attend a reception following the service.
