Sustainable Midlands officials announced Monday that this year’s 10th annual Tasty Tomato Festival will be moved to Earlewood Park (1113 Recreation Dr., Columbia). The event is a celebration of locally grown food, the people who grow it, the restaurants who serve it, the markets that sell it, and the people who eat it.

The event will be held July 13 from 1 to 7 p.m. Admission is free in honor of the festival’s 10th anniversary. According to officials, this year’s celebration will highlight and celebrate businesses and organizations bringing fresh food to the North Columbia area.

Tomato growers are encouraged to enter their tomatoes for a chance to win the “Homegrown Tomato Contest.” Anyone can enter and a panel of judges will select winners for eight categories: Best Big Red, Best Big Yellow, Best Purple, Best Unusual Tomato (striped, rare variety, etc.), Best Small Red, Best Small Other, Best Tomato Grown in a Public Garden (includes schools and communities), and Best Tomato Grown by a Child. Winners will be announced on stage during the festival.

Tasty Tomato Festival was named by Southern Living as one of the “Best in the South” things to do. More information can be found at www.TastyTomatoFestival.com
