The anticipation is finally over, after SC State Fair officials made a large announcement Wednesday unveiling new plans in store for the fair’s 150th anniversary.

According to State Fair Manager Nancy Smith, the biggest addition to this year’s festivities will be a free, daily circus. “Our circus at the fair will feature three performances daily under a 1,300 seat state-of-the-art tent,” she said. The circus shows will run for one hour, and feature high-wire artists, dare-devil motorcyclists, aerial stunts, acrobatics, clowns, camels, dogs, and more, according to Smith. “Admission to the circus will be free with your ticket into the fair,” she added.

This year’s theme is “Prize-Winning Memories,” and will pay homage to the history of the fair. Smith said there will be a display of interesting fair memorabilia throughout the years. A South Carolina State Fair memory wall will feature guest-submitted images and quotes (To be included, patrons can email their memories or photos to favoritememory@scstatefair.org).

Although there will be new additions, one of the most exciting points, according to Smith, is that ticket prices will not increase.

The usual fair favorites including the Midway with 70 rides, yummy fair-food concessions (plus some new vendors) will also be a part of the annual event.
