The COMET Central Midlands Transit service announced Monday that the company will be joining other public transportation systems across the nation to participate in National Get On Board Day, Thursday.

The event was put in place to encourage people to support public transportation and showcase the benefits it brings to communities. According to The COMET’s information, 34 million people board public transportation each week day in the United States.

To celebrate National Get On Board Day, all COMET bus rides will be free Thursday. There will also be giveaways for five and 10-day ride passes at the Transit Center and on random bus routes throughout the day, to encourage continued public transit usage.

“Let’s make the Central Midlands take pride in their public transit system,” the announcement reads.
