Suspicious fire reported inside Harbison Walmart, store closes for investigation

The Columbia Fire Department has been on scene at the Harbison Walmart since approximately 3:30 a.m. Tuesday morning in response to a fire.

Crews were able to extinguish the fire, but officials said the store did experience some damage due to the smoke. According to CFD public information officer Mike Desumma, the fire began in part of the food section of the store. Everyone inside the building during the time was able to get out safely.

Columbia Fire and other officials will be observing surveillance footage to see if the cause can be determined. Desumma said the fire has been deemed “suspicious.” The store is currently closed while the investigation is underway.
