Fall Line Bar & Grill opens in former Delaney’s location

It has now been only one month since Delaney’s Irish Pub in Five Points was purchased and renamed by a new owner. Fall Line Bar & Grill is owned by Michael Brown.

Brown will still target the same clientele as Delaney’s did – college students principally – but the atmosphere has undergone a change: from Irish pub to sports bar. And the menu has changed from bangers and mash to buffalo wings, nachos, tacos, and pizza, to name a few additions. It’s good “bar food,” Brown calls it. “We use all fresh ingredients,” he said, “and we have 28 craft beers on tap.” Other new features include a number of large screen TVs where sports fans can tune into sports of every type and description. A new pool table in the bar area stands ready to let patrons test their ability with cue sticks.

When asked how he got into the restaurant business in the first place, Brown replied: “All this,” he said waving his hand around, indicating the bar and restaurant, “is new to me. For years I worked for my dad in the grass turf business. I went off to college and eventually my dad decided to retire and sell his business. He surprised me when he told me that he had set me up as a partner and gave me a percentage of the sale. I wanted to try something different and this place came up for sale, so here I am.”

The restaurant gets its name from the rapids of the Congaree River that begin around the train trestle and the Blossom Street bridge. The water from these rapids was harnessed and powered many of the mills that helped Columbia grow industrially.

The Fall Line is located at 741 Saluda Avenue in Five Points and is open for business Monday through Wednesday, 11 a.m. to 10 p.m., and Thursday through Sunday, 11 a.m. to midnight. Visit their website at falllinecola.com.
