Martha Reeves Shearer of Lexington died Sunday, March 24, 2019. Born in Atlanta, Georgia, April 16, 1927, she was the daughter of William B. Reeves and Julia Bell Reeves. She graduated from Druid Hills High School in Atlanta and attended Weslyan College in Macon, Georgia.
She and her husband Langley P. Shearer, Jr. were childhood friends. They were married on July 16, 1946 and remained together 57 years until his death in December 2003. She enjoyed being a wife, homemaker, and mother to their four daughters.
Langley’s work took them from Atlanta to Baton Rouge, Louisiana, St. Louis, Missouri, and back to Atlanta before moving to Columbia/ Lexington area where she resided for 50 years.
We were blessed to have her with us until close to her 92nd birthday. She taught us many of life’s important lessons: commitment, strength and courage, and love and forgiveness. She will be dearly missed by her family and loved ones. We rejoice knowing that she is in heaven reunited with her one and only love. She left this world a grateful heart especially for her loving family and friends.
A private service for family and friends will be held at Wood Ridge Memorial Park.
Surviving are her four daughters Martha Sue Koon ( Mike), of Irmo; Sandy Shearer (Darrell Matus) of Jacksonville, FL; Nancy Brazzell (Robert) of West Columbia; Jackie Danielson (Richard) of Summerville, SC. Grandchildren are Amy Koon Wilson (Greg); Michael Koon (Jacquelyn); Jeffrey Koon (Margaret); Susan Koon; Ryan Brazzell; Jeremy Brazzell; Sam Danielson; Joshua Danielson; step granddaughters are Kirsten Danielson Stuart and Alicia Danielson. Great grandchildren are Savannah, Christopher and Abby Wilson; Emery and Eve Koon, Hadley Britt Koon, Emma Grace Brazzell and a step great granddaughter, MacKenzie Stuart. Her brother Brown Reeves (Marianna) of Winter Park, Florida and her twin sister Claire Baird of St. Marys, Florida, sister-in-law, Judy Blount out of Waycross, Georgia.
