A new business is scheduled to open in the developing BullStreet District next spring. REI Co-op will be a 20,000 sq.-ft. store on the corner of Bull and Freed Streets, offering a wide assortment of outdoor gear, experiences and expertise to the Midlands.

In addition to hiking, cycling, camping and paddling gear, the store will hold workshops to connect people with a life outdoors. REI helped more than 350,000 people across the nation get outside through classes and events in 2018. BullStreet’s location rests among Columbia’s downtown districts, and is positioned near key access points from two interstates, allowing local and statewide residents to have easy access to the store.

REI has been recognized on Fortune magazine’s “100 Best Companies to Work For” list for 22 consecutive years.

Master developer of the BullStreet District, Robert Hughes, said the store is the exact kind of retailer the BullStreet development plan envisions. “REI is on the cutting edge of lifestyle retailing that promotes the love of the outdoors, which our region embraces. Their consistently high ranking for their workplace environment says volumes about their core values,” said Hughes.

REI Columbia is expected to create approximately 45 new jobs in 2020. Candidates interested in joining their team can apply at
