It was announced that a local orthodontist at Irmo Smiles, Jim Raman, has passed away.

Irmo Smiles sent out a letter notifying patients of the doctor’s death, describing it as “a tragic loss.”  It was mentioned that all appointments of Raman’s wife Misti, who is also a doctor at Irmo Smiles, will be rescheduled. “Your patience is greatly appreciated as we give Dr. Misti Raman time to grieve the loss of her loving husband,” it reads.

According to the company’s website, Jim Raman completed his bachelor’s degree from the University of South Carolina, and his Doctorate of Dental Medicine from the Medical University of South Carolina’s College of Dental Medicine. He and his wife have two children.

The Lexington County Sheriff’s Department has launched an investigation into Raman’s death, although no information has been released on any possible findings. According to LCSD’s Captain Adam Myrick, it is standard procedure for the department to investigate any non-natural death.

Raman’s visitation will be held Friday at Caughman-Harman Funeral Home in Lexington, from 6 to 8 p.m. His funeral will be Saturday at Riverland Hills Batist Church, at noon. He was 42-years-old.
