HIGH SCHOOL BASKETBALL SCOREBOARD
It was a full weekend of action for Midlands high school basketball teams. Here is a rundown of how things panned out on Friday and Saturday. Only a few Midlands area teams remain going into the third round.

Friday
4A GIRLS
WESTWOOD 87 DANIEL 34
The Lady Redhawks had five in double figures with Maliyah Lockett leading the way with 22
RIDGE VIEW 61 WREN 44
Hasonti Keller had 11 points
LOWER RICHLAND 61 GREENVILLE 44
AC FLORA 51 AIRPORT 40

5A GIRLS
SPRING VALLEY 75 BYRNES 42
The defending 5A Champions had five in double figures including Ashley Williamson with 21 points. Coach Megan Assey has a machine in the Lady Vikings. They are so good and fundamentally sound. She is proving that last season was not a fluke by any means. Assey is one of the top coaches in the Midlands.
GOOSE CREEK 51 DUTCH FORK 20
LEXINGTON 35 WANDO 29
University of South Carolina Gamecock commit Olivia Thompson had 26 points in the win. She is fun to watch. Saw her a few times last year. The Lady Wildcats have been overshadowed a little this year with the boys success (still undefeated) but watch out for the Lady Cats here as they have not entered the third round.

3A BOYS
CHESTER 56 NEWBERRY 52
SOUTHSIDE 66 FAIRFIELD CENTRAL 46
KEENAN 76 MID CAROLINA 33
Huge statement win here for Keenan. Raekwon Harris had 19 points in the win. From what I saw and read, Keenan unleashed a press defense and really stifled the opposition. Keenan will host a very good team in Southside this Tuesday.

2A GIRLS
GRAY COLLEGIATE 49 BARNWELL 44
Most people know how good the War Eagle boys are, but the girls are making a run this year. Kayla Gordon had 15 and Truth Doctor chipped in with 14.
Here is a look at Saturday’s action:

SATURDAY
5A BOYS
LEXINGTON 64 GOOSE CREEK 40
What a win for the Wildcats. This team’s improbable season continues as they stay unbeaten on the year. They have tied a school record for the most consecutive wins which was set in a two-season span with the 96 (state champions) and 97 season.. Mason Carver had 28 and Jonathan Corley had 15
BERKELEY 76 RIVER BLUFF 64
DORMAN 68 IRMO 41
This was actually a rematch of the state championship from a year ago. And a good season for Irmo comes to a close. This Dorman team is just too good. They have 3 Division I prospects plus another 2 or 3 underclassman that will be on down the road. I saw the Cavaliers earlier this season. Gonna be really hard to slow them down. Dylan Williams had 20 for the Yellow Jackets in the loss
MAULDIN 63 SPRING VALLEY 57
A great season for Perry Dozier and his Vikings came to an end. The Vikings overachieved in the minds of a lot of folks, but in a good way. It just speaks to the coaching and the talent that SV had all year. Their 7-1 region record and championship should not go overlooked as having a standout year and something to build on for 2019-2020.

4A BOYS
RIDGE VIEW 104 WALHALLA 50
The Blazers hit 15 three pointers in the win. Thirteen different players scored while Javon Anderson and Walyn Napper led the way with 19 each.
TRAVELERS REST 66 AC FLORA 58
Slight upset here as the Falcons lost this one at home in Forest Acres. Quincy Riley had 22 and DJ Sinkler had 15 points in the loss for Flora
GREENVILLE 68 WESTWOOD 60
The Redhawks may have lost but it capped off a great season. The 25 wins this year was a school record.
DARLINGTON 78 BROOKLAND-CAYCE 49

2A BOYS
GRAY COLLEGIATE 62 WHALE BRANCH 40
Tommy Bruner had 22 to lead GC. I don’t see anyone giving the War Eagles a challenge until the Upper State title game which is where they would possibly match up with Keenan. Those two have had quite the rivalry the last 3-4 years.
The schedule for this week. Each team is trying to punch their ticket to the Upper (Greenville) and Lower State(Florence) weekends
