One of Columbia’s newest hotels held their official grand opening Thursday afternoon followed by a reception. Hampton Inn & Suites, off Killian Road (1310 Roberts Branch Pkwy), boasts of a modernized design from the architecture of the building to the layout of the rooms.

General Manager Angela Emerson said their location was created from the newest prototype model. “We have a casual, care-free design, nice bright colors, and the sign behind the front desk is my favorite focal point,” she said. “It used to say ‘Welcome to Columbia, South Carolina.’ Now it says, ‘Welcome to the Palmetto State.”

The hotel offers 108 rooms on four different stories, one meeting space, an extra boardroom, a “nook” that allows for more lounging space, a swimming pool, free breakfast and a fitness center.

Rooms have been available since November 28, and Emerson said the response thus far has been quite positive. “(Guests) love the design of the building, because it’s not just a rectangle. They love the modern architecture on the outside, then once you come in, you have all the pops of color along with the neutrals,” she said. “It’s more modern furniture and stuff like that, they absolutely love it.”

Emerson also said she believes they are positioned in a great location. “I mean, I remember when Killian Road was nothing but trees and a gas station,” she laughed. The hotel is part of a developing area surrounded by other new stores including McDonald’s and Panera. According to a Hampton Inn & Suites employee, there will soon be additional developments nearby.
