SFC Calvin Anthony Rose Jr.

SFC Calvin Anthony Rose, Jr., US Army (Ret.), 69, of Greenwood, formerly of Columbia, died February 2, 2019. Born September 19, 1949 in Whitmire, SC, he was a son of the late Calvin Anthony Rose, Sr. and Lois Erskine Rose.

SFC Rose served for two years in the US Navy, before serving 23 ½ years in the Army. After his retirement from service, he worked as a claims adjuster for Blue Cross Blue Shield. SFC Rose was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend. He was a member of Calvary Chapel Association Church.

Survivors include his wife, Susan Shell Rose; daughter, Jennifer Crawford (Kevin); step-son, Michael Cotton (Shauna); step-daughter, Laura Cotton Wood (Nathan); grandchildren, Mia Crawford, Emily Thompson, Sarah Thompson, Kamryn Crawford, Keegan Crawford, Ethan Wood and Elijah Wood; siblings, Barbara Rose Jackson (Danny), Jo Rose Dooley (Randy), Diane Rose Segraves (Wayne), Robert Rose (Sue), Tommy Rose (Donna), Randy Rose (Barbara) and Jimmy Rose (Mary); as well as numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, SFC Rose was preceded in death by a brother, Michael Erskine.

The funeral service for SFC Rose will be held 10 o’clock, Thursday, February 7th, at Shives Funeral Home, Trenholm Road Chapel, 7600 Trenholm Road Ext., Columbia. The family will receive friends Wednesday evening from 5 until 7 o’clock, at the funeral home. A graveside service with full military honors will be held 1 o’clock, Friday, February 8th, at Fort Jackson National Cemetery, 4170 Percival Road, Columbia.
