It’s not here yet, but it will be soon.

Sweetwaters Coffee & Tea was founded in Michigan in 1993, and now will be opening its first South Carolina location in the Midlands.  Local owner Greg Dodd said when he and his wife came across Sweetwaters, they thought it would be a great fit for Columbia.

“Sweetwaters Coffee & Tea offers a broad selection of incredibly delicious premium, real ingredient-focused beverages with a unique global and Asian influence,” Dodd said.  “For example, our Strawberry Bliss is made with real strawberries, yogurt, and cream – and that’s it.”

Dodd explained that the store will offer other specialty drinks including a French Vietnamese Au Lait, Imperial Milk Tea, Matcha Latte and Abianno Espresso (an Italian-style espresso roast).  There will be additional offerings like coffee blends, whole leaf and herbal teas, in-house made cold brew and ginger lemon / ginger raspberry herbal teas.

The shop will also provide light-fare food like pastries, muffins, sandwiches, salads, and “tempting” desserts.

One of the main reasons Dodd said he was drawn to Sweetwaters was the company mission: “We want to make our guests’ day.”  Dodd said that’s exactly what he plans on doing. “We’ll do that by providing friendly service, superior products and an inspirational atmosphere,” he added.

Sweetwaters will have a strong community focus, according to Dodd.  “Whether it means sponsoring an event, hosting a fundraiser, hosting group meetings, or rewarding students through our Great Grades program, we’ll be continually looking for ways to be involved in the community.”  He said they are excited to become a valuable part of the downtown Columbia and the UofSC area.

Sweetwaters will be located at the bottom of the new Empire Columbia building (1002 Park St.). Construction will begin in March and is predicted to be finished by late May.

Dodd said he will be looking for friendly, outgoing people to join the Sweetwaters team once construction begins. To apply for employment, click HERE.
