The newest Columbia pizza store has a name that won’t be quickly forgotten. Stoner’s Pizza Joint officially opened Jan. 14 at 1216 Washington Street (near the corner of Washington and Main streets). Although the name may be what draws many curious customers inside, General Manager Daija King said they’ll leave remembering the food.

“If they don’t come in here for the pizza, they come in here for our smoked wings, which we smoke in-house,” she said. “It’s definitely a great menu, everything here is tasty. And our pizza dough is made fresh from scratch.”

In addition to pizza and wings, King said they have a varietal menu including salad with vegetables cut fresh each day, sandwiches, a cheesecake stromboli available in plain, strawberry or raspberry, and “half-baked” cookies.

Stoner’s does have a delivery service for their food, too.  According to King, their drivers will deliver within a  seven-mile radius, and the delivery fee is a flat $3.

Most are probably wondering, what’s the story behind that name? King said the store’s name goes back to the people who originally created the pizza chain. “It’s part of a corporate chain mainly out of Georgia. It was started by a couple who named it Stoner’s Pizza Joint, then they sold the chain. I’m not even sure why they named it that exactly,” she laughed.

The store’s grand opening will be Saturday from 1 to 3 p.m. There will be a raffle for one customer to win free pizza for a year. They will also be giving away one $250 certificate for a Superbowl party pack.
