State troopers were involved in a brief pursuit early Thursday morning that ended at the Cayce Waffle House on Airport Boulevard. Gregory Alexander Maxwell, 27, is charged with DUI, failure to stop for blue lights, and driving while uninsured.

According to Highway Patrol, Maxwell drove past troopers on I-26 at a high rate of speed. As troopers tried to catch up to the vehicle, the suspect left the interstate on exit 113 and attempted to pull his car into the Waffle House parking lot. Instead, the vehicle ran directly into the side of the building.

Maxwell was transported to the Lexington County Detention Center.

The Cayce Department of Public Safety reported no injuries from the incident, and the Lexington County Sheriff’s Department is investigating. The Cayce Waffle House is still open.
