Columbia’s Cottontown is about to get a little bit sweeter.

A Taste of the South, retailer of Southern gourmet products and gifts, will soon be moving to 2222 Sumter Street after being located on Broad River Road for the past 30 years.

The regionally-based company is arguably most well-known for its chocolate covered pecans, praline pecans, and cheese straws. However, company president Elie Abikhaled said they offer more than just food. Many of the items available for purchase are artistic pieces, too.

Abikhaled said the new location will allow them to expand on their current line of products, and position them closer to the business community.

“We’re excited to be closer to many of our customers,” he said. “The downtown market is definitely a nice area to be in.”

The Cottontown location will also be utilized for corporate fulfillment, according to Abikhaled. But there will still be a showroom of products, available for purchase in-store.

The Sumter Street location was leased to A Taste of the South by Cason Development Group.  Abikhaled hopes to have it opened around Valentine’s Day.
