Vehicle collision turns into homicide investigation after coroner discovers gunshot wound on victim

Richland County Coroner Gary Watts has identified the individual who died early Saturday morning after officers responded to a single vehicle collision. The driver was Donald Antonio Young, 37.

According to Richland County deputies, the South Carolina Highway Patrol and the Richland County Coroner’s Office responded to the collision on Meeting House and Clark roads. Young was pronounced dead at the scene.

Later in the day, deputies were contacted by the coroner’s office during the autopsy, which revealed that the victim had suffered a gunshot sound to the upper body before the collision.
