Gamecocks lose to Virginia in Belk Bowl

Virginia beat South Carolina 28-0 in the Belk Bowl on Saturday. It was the Cavaliers’ first bowl win since 2005.

Virginia improved to 8-5 with the win and ended the ACC’s longest bowl drought. The Cavaliers dominated the Gamecocks, holding the ball for more than 42 minutes. The Cavaliers were up 14-0 at halftime. The Gamecocks were shut out for the first time since 2006, when USC lost 18-0 to Georgia. USC was a five-point favorite, and ended the season at 7-6.

South Carolina QB Jake Bentley struggled. And USC was without wide receiver Deebo Samuel, who chose not to play in the bowl game in order to not risk injury, and to begin preparing for the NFL draft.
