Capital City Cloggers selected to dance in London New Year’s Day Parade
There’s a little bit of southern flair that will soon be hitting London.
The Capital City Cloggers, of Capital City Dance and Fitness, will be performing in London’s 2019 New Year’s Day Parade. The Columbia-based dance team was selected to perform among 92 cloggers from six different states.
The historic London parade route winds through Piccadilly Circus, Regent Street, Trafalgar Square, and Whithall. It ends near the Palace of Westminster, Big Ben, and Westminster Abbey. There are more than 500,000 people who attend, and more than three million TV viewers worldwide. According to Capital City Cloggers’ Director Heather Vassey, it will be the the largest audience the cloggers have ever performed for.
Vassey voiced her excitement for the performance. “In our 16 years in business we have been honored to participate in many events. This is a tremendous honor and opportunity for our dancers, our studio and our community,” she said. “I am confident that our dancers will represent that capital city well and make the most of this once-in-a-lifetime experience.”
The dancers will also be performing at two other locations while in London. They depart for the trip Dec. 28 and will be there for one week.
