The inaugural Auto-Owners Insurance Showcase at Lexington High School Saturday promised five competitive games and even more All-Star talent.

Those in attendance also received plenty of free basketball in two contests and the host boys’ team remained undefeated on the season:

Lexington 59. Dreher 43

The undefeated Wildcats closed out the evening of games by improving to 10-0 on the season.

With head coach Bailey Harris on the sidelines after a 6-plus hour trip from Tuscaloosa, Ala. where he attended his daughter’s graduation from the University of Alabama, Lexington jumped out to a 8-0 lead in the first quarter.

They doubled the Blue Devils’ point total in the second half in increasing their lead as many as 23 points. Player of the Game Mason Carver led Lexington with 17 points and Jonathan Corley added 12.

Allen Elmore was the lone player in double figures for Dreher (1-9) with 11 points.

Lexington heads to Irmo on Tuesday.

Dorman 59, Porter-Gaud 54 (OT)

For the second time this year, Cavaliers’ head coach Thomas Ryan returned to his alma mater.

Thanks to Myles Tate’s 24 points and 5 assists and Ta’lon Cooper’s 23 points and 6 rebounds, the 2-time defending Class 5A champions were able to overcome the Cyclones and top senior prospect Josiah James’ 36 points, 12 rebounds and 7 blocks.

The contest was a tale of scoring runs as the two teams traded the lead several times in regulation. Dorman (8-2) held a 26-20 halftime lead, only to see Porter-Gaud score the first 7 points of the second half to reclaim the advantage.

The Cyclones led 33-30 entering the fourth when the Cavaliers erupted for 16 unanswered points. James rallied Porter-Gaud (5-4) with 11 straight points and an assist on a three-pointer to bring his team within a point with less than 30 seconds left.

Tate hit 1-2 free throws and James tied the game with a pair from the foul line. Both teams failed on their final possessions and Tate scored six of the Cavaliers’ 10 points in the extra period to pull out the victory.

Cooper was named Player of the Game.

W.J. Keenan 77

Hartsville 67 (2OT)

A game-high 23 points from Trae Hannibal, 12 points from Raymond O’Neal and 10 from Demonte Capeheart was not enough to lift the Red Foxes past the undefeated Raiders in the longest contest of the Showcase.

Asanti Price and Latrell Taylor each scored 19 points and Q’dardruis Sanders and Raekwon Horton both had 12 for Keenan (10-0).

A.C. Flora 65, Sumter 59

D.J. Sinkler scored 24 points and Pat Iriel and Robert McCray added 11 points each for the victorious Falcons (5-4).
