The Lexington Police Department announced their officers will be participating in the Sober or Slammer! holiday campaign, along with other law enforcement agencies statewide.  The campaign begins Saturday and includes officers conducting continued D.U.I. enforcement activities through the New Year holiday.

According to the department, the traffic and patrol divisions will be focused on D.U.I. enforcement for the next three weeks.  Additional public safety checkpoints will also be implemented.  Officers are asking citizens to prepare for ways to get home safely after consuming alcohol at holiday parties and other festivities.

“Always make the smart decision to have a sober driver to get you home safe.  The risk is just too great to get behind the wheel intoxicated,” said Lexington Police Chief Terrence Green.

The Sober or Slammer campaign falls under the South Carolina Department of Public Safety Target Zero initiative to end all highway fatalities, and is part of the national Drive Sober of Get Pulled Over crackdown.
