The newest convenience store in Lexington was crowded with curious guests Thursday afternoon.  The first 7-Eleven in the area held its grand opening event from 2 to 7 p.m., offering free pizza, hot dogs, drinks, cookies, coupons, and reusable coffee mugs.  In addition to the giveaways, gas prices were $1.79 a gallon until 7 p.m..

7-Eleven is owned by Applegreen Southeast USA, which also owns Pitt Stop and S-Mart convenience stores.  President Elizabeth Pierce attended the grand opening, and explained what the new store has to offer.

“It’s open 24 hours, has really great hot food and beverage options, and has its own brand of products like the slurpee, and coffee offerings,” she said.

Pierce and Director of Operations, James Carey, both moved to the area from Dublin, Ireland last year.  She said their experience in Ireland working at the corporate level will help improve the standards for the new Lexington 7-Eleven.

“We feel we’re going to bring the 7-Elevens back and operate them at the highest level possible, to give the customer the best experience,” said Pierce.

In addition to the “freebies” inside, employees walked to customers at the gas pumps with food samples. Vendor tents were positioned in the parking lot offering free Cheerwine, Bang energy drink samples, and raffle tickets for prize baskets.

The Lexington 7-Eleven is located at 2374 Augusta Highway, and provided 10 new jobs for the area. There will be two additional locations coming to the Midlands in 2019.
