No. 9 Maryland hands USC Women first loss of the year

The tenth-ranked South Carolina women’s basketball team lost to No. 9 Maryland, Sunday night, 85-61.
The game drew a crowd of 11,240 to Colonial Life Arena.

USC started out OK, and had a lead early. But in a nine-minute stretch from the last part of the first quarter to the last part of the second quarter, the Gamecocks scored only one point. The result was a 26-1 run by Maryland.

The Gamecocks were also out-rebounded 53-29, and shot only 1-for-21 from 3-point range. The loss was one of USC head coach Dawn Staley’s largest margins of defeat at home.

NEXT: Over the Thanksgiving break, USC will play in the inaugural Vancouver Showcase in Canada. Ranked teams that included in the tournament are: Oregon State and Notre Dame.
