South Carolina bounces back, cruises to win over Chattanooga
South Carolina defeated Chattanooga 49-9, Saturday at Williams-Brice Stadium.
With the win, the Gamecocks’ record improved to 6-4. It was head coach Will Muschamp’s 21st win at USC and it tied former Gamecock football coach Steve Spurrier for the most in the first three years of a coach at South Carolina. The Mocs fell to 6-5 on the season.
South Carolina reached bowl eligibility with the win. After the game, Muschamp said he expects to go to a bowl game every year and he expects to win the SEC East and play in Atlanta for the SEC Championship. A goal, he said, the team has not achieved yet. He also said he’s proud of the win Saturday after USC lost last week at Florida, squandering a 17-point lead.
“Really proud of our football team bouncing back,” Muschamp said. “I liked how we went about our business in all three phases. Our guys handled their business like they are supposed to do in a game like this.”
The Gamecocks take on No. 2 Clemson (11-0) on Saturday at Clemson.
