Stone Canyon Cabins selling 400 sq.-ft. homes, based out of West Columbia
Drivers traveling down Sunset Boulevard in West Columbia may have noticed six new “houses” positioned in a lot near Ricky’s Tire & Auto this week. The site is the new home for Stone Canyon Cabins of Columbia. The company allows interested parties to take a look inside of their tiny cabins to see the different types of layouts and amenities that are offered. Their lot is located at 1410 Sunset Boulevard.
Stone Canyon’s Jim Bowie provides on-site tours and information about the cabins, and just recently purchased one himself. “I was looking for something similar to this to put on Lake Murray,” he said. “So I flew out to the plant and previewed the products, and I was like, wow, these are awesome.” Bowie said the interest has been unbelievable.
The smallest cabin offered is just 260 sq.-ft. long. All of the homes are 400 sq.-ft. or smaller, in order to be considered a park model RV. Some of the cabins have a “loft” space that is not included in the square footage. “It’s not high enough to be counted. And they all come with porches so they feel a lot bigger than they are,” he added.
Those interested in the cabins can look at each example homes to figure out exactly what they want. “The tours are to see what they like. Then we would sit down and figure out their wall color, roof color, cabinet color, flooring, decking, everything,” said Bowie. The cabins have different floor plans and can come with amenities including composite decking, stainless steel appliances, french doors, and more.
All cabins are made at a factory in Brilliant, Alabama. It takes only about six weeks for the product to be created. Bowie said they can be shipped anywhere in the country.
The cost of Stone Canyon’s cabins vary, according to Bowie. They range from approximately mid $40,000s to upper $70,000s depending on the floor plan and upgrades. The West Columbia lot has not had their grand opening yet, but Bowie said that will happen soon, along with official signage.
