Adding points after touchdowns and the occasional field goal are not Eric Anderson’s only purpose on-field at Gray Collegiate Academy.

The senior placekicker has taken it upon himself in conjunction with a national foundation, to raise funds to help children fight cancer.

Anderson became inspired after watching a presentation during a National Scholarship showcase in Wisconsin. A guest speaker was a placekicker who battled cancer and started a “Kick-IT!” campaign which went national.

He was also motivated by a friend’s younger brother who successfully fought off cancer.
“I just thought why not share my gift that God gave me to help others do something I enjoy, and then help someone save their life,” Anderson said.

As part of “Kick-IT! with Eric Anderson, he is conducting a pledge campaign asking for donations of at least $1 towards any PAT and $3 for field goals made this season.

The donations can be made at his website. Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation (ALSF) is a national childhood cancer foundation dedicated to raising funds for research into new treatments and cures for all children battling cancer.

After missing the season opener due to injury, Anderson has scored 22 points for the War Eagles. As of Tuesday, donators have contributed $627 towards his goal of $1,000.

Following the season, Anderson plans to donate all funds to Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation. The next opportunity for Anderson to add points to his cause is Friday against Calhoun County.
