Crickentree golf course close to sale
Investment firm ECapital bid a reported $1 million for the closed Crickentree golf course property in a public auction Monday. If no other bids are received in the next 30 days, ECapital will become the new owner as the low bidder.
ECapital bought the mortgage on the course a year ago and closed it in July, citing financial problems with its continued operation. That mortgage was foreclosed in August, leading to yesterday’s sale at auction. Once the sale is final, ECapital is expected to submit a proposal to the Richland County Planning Commission to rezone the property from its current Traditional Recreational Open Space designation to allow construction of homes on the property.
Crickentree residents opposed to the rezoning are continuing their lobbying efforts with planning commission and county council members, according to resident Larry Ellis. The residents say eliminating the open green space will reduce their home values, while the approximately 470 new homes proposed for the property will overburden roads and schools in the area.
The planning commission was scheduled to hear an educational presentation on TROS zoning at its meeting yesterday, but it was postponed because several members were unable to attend the meeting. The presentation has been rescheduled for the commission’s Nov. 5 meeting.
