19-year-old dies in I-26 collision, coroner identifies

Lexington County Coroner Margaret Fisher has identified the individual who died as a result of a motor vehicle collision that occurred on I-26 westboud near exit 104 Wednesday morning around 5:20 a.m.

According to Fisher, Mr. Austin William Dugar, 19, of Columbia, was pronounced dead at an area hospital due to injuries sustained in the collision.

Dugar, who is believed to have been wearing a seatbelt at the time of the incident, was traveling eastbound in the westbound lanes. While presumably attempting to correct his direction of travel, Dugar stopped his vehicle in the lanes of travel, perpendicular to the roadway.  While this occurred, his vehicle was struck by a vehicle.  There were no other occupants in Dugar’s vehicle, and the other driver was transported to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

South Carolina Highway Patrol is investigating the collision.
