Hurricane evacuee gets pinned under vehicle when driver runs into Prosperity Wendy’s

Newberry County Sheriff Lee Foster reported Wednesday night that first responders received an unusual call. A Hurricane Florence evacuee drove their vehicle through the front doors and glass of the Prosperity Wendy’s, on Highway 773.  Another evacuee became pinned under the vehicle and rubble, according to Foster.

“Great work by first responders.  The Lord was with all because only three were injured,” he wrote in a Facebook post.

Foster mentioned the place was packed with customers and evacuees, noting that the incident outcome could have been much worse.

According to a response from the driver’s relative, the vehicle malfunctioned when the driver hit the breaks.  Two of the tires stopped moving while the other two continued to move forward.
