Chapin’s Shelby Raye playing a release show Sunday for new CD, No Filter
Chapin’s Shelby Raye will be part of a dual Album Release Show, Sunday with The Jake Bartley Band. It’s at 6 p.m. at the Newberry Opera House Performing Arts Center.
Raye, 17, was in the 94.3 – The Dude studio Tuesday to record an interview with 94.3’s Michelle Renew. The name of the new album is “No Filter.” The Jake Bartley Band’s release is entitled “Brotherhood.”
“I recorded the album in two days,” said Raye, referring to “No Filter.” She wrote some of the songs for the CD. She also sings and plays guitar. The CD was recorded at Bonfire Records in Greenville. Recording was completed at the end of July.
“It just flows,” Raye said of the recording sessions.
She also said she has been writing songs since she was 12-or-13-years-old. “When I’m going through something, it’s how I deal with it,” Raye said.
Raye has cut her teeth as a performer at local establishments, including Schooner’s Bar and Grill in Irmo. She plays at festivals, music halls and wherever there is a crowd that wants to hear live music.
There is a benefit to buying a to ticket to the release show. Every ticket holder to the release show will receive a copy of “No Filter” by Shelby Raye and “Brotherhood” by The Jake Bartley Band.
According to her promotional literature: “Shelby Raye’s robust, soulful twang is evident of her southern upbringing on Lake Murray. The eclectic lyrics and intricate melodies of her original music showcase her ability to touch people from every walk of life with a song – all while wearing her heart and sass on her sleeve.”
Jake Bartley is a talented singer, songwriter, and guitarist from Greenwood. As a teen, Jake cut his teeth emulating Soul and R&B tunes as a performer in his father’s band, “Hack Bartley and Shuffle” and even spent some time as a legacy member of The Swingin’ Medallions. Jake has matured into a “complete musician” and has managed to create his own style of soulful expressiveness.
