Esther Player McKay

Esther Player McKay, 84, of Elgin, died Wednesday, September 5, 2018. Born on August 27, 1934, in Camden, SC, she was a daughter of the late Clemson and Lucille Sinclair Player. Mrs. McKay loved to read and spend time with her family, especially her grandsons. Her gifted talent was needle point stitching and she made numerous Christmas stockings over the years. Mrs. McKay was a member of Killian Baptist Church for many years.

Survivors include her daughter, Donna McKay Maples (Darryl, Jr.); two grandsons, Hunter and Tyler Maples; two sisters, Doris Wise (Clarence), and Ann Pfleger (Louis); a sister-in-law, Daisy Player; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Mrs. McKay was preceded in death by her husband of 51 years, Jess McKay; sisters, Edna Hallman (Olin), and Nancy Crout (Everette); and a brother, James Allen Player.

The funeral service for Mrs. McKay will be held at 11 o’clock, Saturday, September 8th, with the Rev. Chris Reinolds and Rev. Steve Hallman officiating. Burial will follow the service in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5 until 7 o’clock, Friday evening at Shives Funeral Home, Trenholm Road Chapel, 7600 Trenholm Road Ext., Columbia.
